Materials: Honeycomb, 2 contrasting jars of honey for tasting (light and dark), wooden stir sticks, sunflower seeds, jar of pollen
Depending on number of students, activities 3, 4, and 5 can be set up as rotating stations.
Workshop: Soil Texture and Composition
Age range: grades 3-6
Time: 45 minutes
Materials: soil samples; water, several clear, plastic containers; a ruler; laundry detergent
Workshop: Journey to the Center of a Seed
Age range: grades K-4
Time: 30-45 minutes
Materials: a variety of seeds, lima bean seeds (about 2 per child), small envelopes to store seed mixtures for individual groups
Preparation: Gather a mixture of seeds of different colors, textures, and sizes. Large seeds like beans, corn, peas, and squash are easiest for young students to handle.
